For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes G-Class have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Lincoln Navigator L doesn’t offer pretensioners for its second-row seat belts.

The G-Class’ pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Navigator L doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the G-Class and Navigator L have rear cross-traffic warning, but the G-Class has Active Brake Assist (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Navigator L’s Cross-Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the G-Class and the Navigator L have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Mercedes vehicles are better in initial quality than Lincoln vehicles. With 7 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Mercedes higher than Lincoln.

The AMG G 63’s standard 4.0 turbo V8 produces 137 more horsepower (577 vs. 440) and 117 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 510) than the Navigator L’s 3.5 turbo V6.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the G-Class’ fuel efficiency. The Navigator L doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The G-Class has a standard locking fuel door which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the Navigator L. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

For better traction, the G-Class’ optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Navigator L (295/40R22 vs. 285/45R22).

The G-Class’ optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Navigator L’s 45 series tires.

The G-Class has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Navigator L; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

The Mercedes G-Class may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 200 to 500 pounds less than the Lincoln Navigator L.

The G 550 is 2 feet, 8.2 inches shorter than the Navigator L, making the G-Class easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The G-Class has .1 inches more front headroom and .5 inches more rear headroom than the Navigator L.

When the G-Class is put in reverse, the passenger rearview mirror tilts from its original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirror into its original position. The Navigator L’s mirror doesn’t automatically adjust for backing.
